Belgian born and Paris based designer Anthony Vaccarello is making a name for himself in Paris and not just because he studied at the prestigious La Chambre School in Brussels or because he had the opportunity to present his graduate collection at the equally prestigious Hyeres festival in the south of France, but because of his bold and daring collection.
For instance, his AW10 collection was a mixtures of velvet and veils, all in a black palette and playing with contrasting textures and embroidered stitches that created a graphic silhouette. Anthony is only interested in creating clothes for that woman that wears her femininity as an armour.
Did I mention that after he was awarded the Grand Prix Mode in 2006, he went on to work for Mr. Lagerfeld at Fendi before he started his eponymous label in 2008. “Every season I try to grow,” he says rather humbly of his work. Cool girl Lou Doillon modelled his AW10 look book, giving it a rebellious feel.
We all know how important it is to support rising talents and this Velvet Bodycon dress (£629) from his Fall 10-11 collection perfectly encapsulates his aesthetic. A blazer should never go amiss in one’s wardrobe and this cotton, wool and silk blazer (£733) should fit right in. What do you think of Mr. Vaccarello’s work?
