5 things you didn’t know about Marios Schwab

Marios Schwab

Greek-Austrian designer,  Marios Schwab, is the master behind the fashion line that delivers adventurously beautiful and timeless designs which are very much cherished by those in the celebrity world. Schwab began training to become a clothes designer at the tender age of 15, he studied in Austria on a 4-year course where he succeeded at perfecting skills in professional tailoring. After moving to Berlin, he graduated from university with a distinction and the institution awarded him Best Student.

Schwab exhibited his designs as part of Fashion East’s initiative for emerging talent and after three seasons of taking part, he took a huge leap of faith and showcased his work independently during London Fashion Week SS 2009. Now he lives, breathes and designs in London since launching his label in 2005. A fresh footprint in the fashion industry, Schwab seized Best New Designer at the British Fashion Awards, 2006 and the Swiss Textile Awards in 2007.

Thus the fast blossoming brand of Marios Schwab was born. The collection is characterised by striking feminine silhouettes that boast cutting edge style and sophistication. Both desirable and cleverly crafted; the brand embodies the essence of the perfect woman.

Schwab’s collection have been many a times splayed across the glossy pages of Vogue (British, American, Russian and French editions!), Dazed and Confused, Self Service  amongst other highly reputable fashion magazines. His dresses in the past have won the hearts of Hilary Duff, Kate Moss, Kylie Minogue and Thandie Newton.

With all his exuberant creations thrilling fashion lovers all over the world, it would very interesting to know more about the genius behind the brand. So here it is…5 things you didn’t know about Marios Schwab.

1)       His aspirations was not always to be a designer

Dedicated to fashion indeed – but Schwab did not always want to be immersed in the world of clothes. As a young boy he dreamt of pursuing a career in professional ballet dancing and performance, oh how his path changed, for the better ,perhaps?!

2)      His designs are created for a fictional character

Interestingly, Schwab admits that he bases his designs for a fictional femme fatale who has the uniform beauty that all women can identify with. The ideal “Marios Schwab Woman” should have dynamic attitude and is open-minded and adventurous.

3)      He describes his designs as being more than beautiful clothing

Marios Schwab has consciously created fashion that is tastefully cultural and has learnt that exotic fabrics were not the only tool to create wearable art. He believes that fashion should capture attitude, performance and character and this is the core foundations that he has injected into his brand.

4)     He likes to create “timeless fashion”

Schwab is most fondly known for his synonymous bodycon designs, its a piece that never ages and always reappears in newest fashion trends. He enjoys the concept of enduring fashion – timeless creations that will always hold the same respect and admiration from the moment they are showcased on the catwalk.

5) He had a favourite teacher at university who encouraged him greatly

Schwab loved his teacher, Louisa Wilson the fashion course director at the prestigious Central Saint Martins, where he completed his MA course. He found her to be very encouraging and also taught him to have a more outright and decisive opinion especially when it came to the business side of fashion.
