Who’s that girl?… For those who haven’t heard of Kuwait born designer Sophie Anderson, this is about to change. Unleashing her prints on the world of fashion her talents are definitely on the “watch list” of those in the know. The motto here is the brighter and bolder the better, this designer should come with a warning attached as her vibrant prints are guaranteed to get noticed, for all the right reasons, come Spring Summer 2013.
Sophie Anderson isn’t your typical fashionista, she is a designer with a difference – her line promoting an ethical stance. The first range debuted back in October 2011, making her a relatively new face in fashion. Now leading into her third season, it would be fair to say that Sophie took a less than conventional route to end up where she is today. She’s started out as a qualified yoga teacher then turned interior designer, this allowed her the opportunity to travel and experience various cultures whilst honing her creative side – an attribute that is mirrored throughout her fashion lines.
So, lets talk about that recent Spring Summer 13 collection…Think tropical themes to put you on the right track, her creations are the definition of bold flamboyant, Sophie uses a myriad of vibrant clashing colours – something that shouldn’t work, but curiously does. On viewing her most recent range it is undeniable that such intense use of colour evokes a strong summer time feeling – even in the middle of winter. Anderson allows the prints to do the talking and this is contrasted with more classic silhouettes: to create her overall signature style.
Well and truly making her mark on the industry, you may have spotted Sophie featured in top titles such as Vogue, Elle and Nylon magazines. Looking at her unusual sourcing techniques – her key focus has been on traditional South American designs, taking input from tribeswomen and local artists which adds an authentic edge to each meticulously crafted garment. Inevitably this has generated considerable levels of publicity, carving out a unique niche in the fashion sector, while her eyecatching use of colours has landed her on numerous “shopping pages” among the various fashion glossies.
Due to her flourishing popularity, Sophie Anderson’s label is stocked in the U.K’s prestigious department stores – Matches, Browns and Fenwicks. Anderson also has an international presence with stock lists based in France, Italy, America Japan, this list goes on….. Arguably pretty impressive for a label still in its early days!
Ultimately it is her use of raw materials and diverse sourcing techniques which offer a new dimension, ‘hands on’ approach which has us talking – it’s this clear creative passion which has put Sophie Anderson firmly onto the map.
