Discover The Portuguese Designer | Diogo Miranda

Diogo Miranda is a very interesting designer I recently came across at Scoop – a Trade Exhibition in London. Among the many rows of stalls exhibiting on that day, Diogo’s seemed to stand out by miles. Maybe it was the colour of his fabrics, the quality it exuded or the minimalistic nature of his designs, I had to meet this designer. A pleasant yet determined individual whose personality instantly makes you warm up to him like a long lost friend. Diogo is based in Portugal, and shows at Portugal Fashion Week with admirable attention from the who is who of Portugal television and celebrities who just can’t get enough of his effortlessly chic collection.

So who is this designer and what is it about his vision that makes his collection stand out so much? Meet Diogo Miranda:

When did you first fall in love with Fashion?

I grew up surrounded by clothes, shoes, beautiful stuff.. My mum was truly passionate about fashion. She and my old sister read fashion magazines, were always buying amazing pieces, getting ready for parties and I guess this is why the fashion career came naturally.

Your Journey from there to here?

It all happened very fast. In high school, I already knew that I wanted to become a fashion designer, so I attended CENATEX, an amazing training program with great teachers that really help students achieve something tangible. After I graduated I took an internship in Sevilla, Spain, in Miguel Reyes atelier which was a fantastic experience! I got to learn what it really means to work in the fashion industry. When I came back to Portugal, I started to work at a textile factory as designer but I quickly realized that I needed to start my own brand. So, in 2007, I started….

Which Celebrity would you like to see wearing your clothes?

Diane Kruger, Scarlet Johansson, Kate Bosworth, Julianne Moore. They’re all amazing women, with different body types and still would totally incorporate the spirit of my designs.

What designer would you most like to be like?

My major influence is Tom Ford. A true fashion gentleman with such a great vision.

How would your friends describe you & How do you unwind?

They’ll say I’m Incredibly fun and outgoing. I’m always in a good mood – I try to stay away from negative energies- and I’m truly a good friend to my friends. When I’m not designing, I enjoy reading, watching good movies, hanging out with friends, running and mostly travelling at every chance I get. Basically enjoying and appreciating every single moment of life.

A long silk black gown, which cost €973.85.

A White shirt which cost €86.

Studying vs Work experience – what would you recommend?

Studying first – obviously – and then apply all the knowledge into work.

What does the future hold for Diogo Miranda the brand? Your future plans?

For now I want to establish my brand in the Fashion industry here in Portugal – to make my brand name stronger. Obviously, breaking foreign markets is the goal to achieve and will be a dream come true. The most important thing for me right now is to be able to continue doing what I love most – Fashion design.
